Puerto
del Carmen is the main resort on Lanzarote,
truly providing something for everyone. It is situated on the
Southern Coast of the island,
facing Fuerteventura.
|
The resort is divided into two contrasting areas, being split between
the old town and the purpose built new tourist areas. Puerto
del Carmen has grown up around it's roots as a quaint,
traditional harbour village and this traditional charm is perfectly
preserved despite the tourist industry. Here you can enjoy a days
mooching around the shops for local souvenirs such as leather and
pottery, or sample authentic Canarian Cuisine.
The other side of the resort has been purpose built over the past
couple of decades with the tourist in mind. Here you will find an
abundance of hotels, international bars and restaurants and a superb
nightlife in the bars and clubs.
Popular site-seeing destinations in Lanzarote
include the island's own 'wine region' producing delicious Malvasia
Wine, and a number of sites created by thousands of years'
volcanic activity.
See the phenomenons of Timanfaya National
Park, where a stick pushed into the ground will catch fire
immediately due to the heat in the ground.
Cuevas de los verdes ('The Green
Caves') are among the world's longest lava tunnels produced by volcanic
eruptions.
These stretch 7 km below sea-level - visitors can walk up to 1.5km
down.
